A Fall into Service Overnight Trip | Saturday, September 19 Sunday, September 20
Celebrate public lands with VolunteerUM and Glacier National Park! Spend Saturday afternoon volunteering with Glacier s Volunteer Office, camp overnight in Apgar, and explore the park Sunday morning before returning to campus.
After volunteering, we will camp together in Apgar. On Sunday morning, the group will have time to explore Glacier before heading back to campus.
No previous volunteer or outdoor experience is required, but everyone who attends must participate in the volunteer project.
Departure: Saturday, September 19 at 8:00 a.m. from UM
Volunteer project: 1:00 5:00 p.m. in West Glacier with the National Park Service
Lodging: Apgar Campground
Return: Sunday, September 20 after exploring the park in the morning
Space available: 8 12 students
Who can join: Open to all UM undergraduate students
Cost: FREE!
Our volunteer project will take place outdoors and may involve uneven or unstable terrain, sun, rain, wind, or changing temperatures, biting insects, thorny plants, wildlife, and other environmental hazards, and physical tasks such as bending, lifting, walking, pulling weeds, or using hand tools.
Before You Sign Up
By registering, you are committing to:
- Departing with the group at 8:00 a.m. Saturday
- Participating fully in the four-hour volunteer project
- Camping overnight with the group
- Following National Park Service and University of Montana safety guidance
- Communicating promptly if your plans change so the space can be offered to another student
Because space is limited, registration should be treated as a firm commitment rather than an expression of interest.

What to Bring
- Long pants and closed-toed shoes suitable for outdoor work
- Clothing layers for changing weather, including rain gear and sun protection
- Refillable water bottle
- Sleeping bag and other personal camping gear
- Personal medications and toiletries
- Packed lunch for Saturday afternoon and personal snacks
Dinner on Saturday, Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday, transportation, and entrance fees are provided
